Life Guards
Crew Members on the Recreation team are multi-taskers. They provide a safe environment for DCL’s 2,600 Guests whilst they swim and enjoy other outdoor activities. Recreation Crew Members work both on the ships and private island, Castaway Cay. In addition to safety responsibilities, they also assist with the operation of evening events such as movies and shows. Recreation Crew Members also use computers and personal experience to describe and sell shore excursions to our Guests. They may also be involved with the rental of recreational equipment including bikes, float mats and tubes, snorkel equipment and boats and provide instruction to guests in the operation of rental boats and the use of snorkel equipment.
Other than recognized lifeguard qualifications lifeguards must be able to:
- Swim a distance of 100 yards (91.44 meters) in 1m 50secs or less
- Swim and complete a distance of 200 yards (182.88 meters), using freestyle and/or breaststroke
- Tread water for 2 minutes
- Retrieve a 10-pound brick from deep water using a feet-first surface dive
